Most cars are now switching to timing chain instead. Can last 80k at least.

Re: Friend looking down on Forte
My first ride is a Toyota Vios. Since it's my first ride, I go with the Singaporean mindset, follow the wind. Vios is the top selling model then. But after driving for a few months, I start to complain about my ride. Colleagues & friends who sit in my ride also hinted or tell me directly that why don't I get an Altis? Very squeeze. Car not stable & scary to sit in my ride. Colour not selling & next time hard to sell...
Forte meets my requirement. Big room space, small engine cc, responsive pick up & ard $60k. So far I am still enjoying it & no complain except for people who despise Korean car, espeically KIA. Who cares?

Re: Friend looking down on Forte
i was deciding between altis and forte and it was quite a close fight.
handling wise, altis steering is very light compared to forte.
response wise, both are abt the same, with forte cvvt have less "jerk"
pickup like abt the same cos forte's bigger hp got compensated by the heavier weight
interior wise, no fight - forte wins
price - forte
in terms of looks - forte
i'm the type to look at value and performance over others (i drove an eg5 last time) and will not bother too much abt wat others think
wat's most impt is taht u enjoy wat u have and didn't regret ur decision

Re: Friend looking down on Forte
I too was driving a Toyota Vios before the change to Cerato Forte recently, like the herd mentality, I just went with the crowd. But of cause I too was skeptical of Korean made cars like the majority of Singaporeans are, "Kia See" & "Kia Soo" but what they did not know was the 2 "Kias" was broken when I bought the Cerato Forte, because I went down to Kia showroom and "see" for myself and straight away I said to myself ah "soo" ....... so that was how the "See" & "Soo" was left out of the KIA See & Kia Soo. so only now is KIA that exist when it comes to car for me.
Japanese made cars I personally think are over rated, and the downside is that they are getting too complacent as they have been on the top all this while and do not realize complacency will lead to their down fall, just look at all the recent defects of Toyota & Hondas. After taking the risk on Korean made cars so to speak, I am definitely convince that it was case of being "Box" in to the mentality and Kia See to take the risk. But sometimes to have to step out of one's comfort zone to realize that there are more than meets the eye, the box suddenly become border less, no parameters...I personally would be more convince to go for other brands of cars besides the Japanese made ones, after analyzing & comparing my past 2 Japanese made cars, I felt "short change", dollar for dollar, the Korean made ones have more features, design better, power good, engine good(only need a few more years of driving to confirm), interior design better, only the brand name are not as established as the J. made ones.
So for those whom are still skeptical and deciding to get a new car, I say "BREAK DOWN THE WALLS" AND Step out of the box.
ps. am not a Korean made "SE", my current profession has nothing to do with cars whatsoever but just a driver like you.....

Re: Friend looking down on Forte
I drove Ford Focus, Fiat Punto, Toyota Altis previously.
I would say the new Cerato models changed KIA eversince they got Peter Schreyer, who used to work for Audi and VW.
Congrats for KIA for having him!
It's value for money with all the accessories. Excellent car body design. Good engine which have the power equivalent to a Honda Civic.
Fell in love when I look at the car and decide to go for the test drive.
I must admit, it's a new KIA, esp Cerato Forte, Koup and in euro, they have the Ceed.
All I can say, its a Korean car but with a continental mindset, well-blend. Superb!
I own a KIA Cerato Forte....way to go KIA!
Pimp my ride!
