Friend looking down on Forte Empty Friend looking down on Forte

Post by Chilex 9th November 2009, 11:36 pm

When I first booked my car, my friend who's driving Mits GLX told me that ''Hey why go Korean"? I told him him bout the features and designs. He still says that Jap models are still the best. Went to Melaka, KL. Told him that engine was smooth and hit 170km/h and vehicle still felt like going even more..... (a liitle noisy though but still considered smooth and stable) friend asked me are u sure? I told him that this car is a real value for money. He told me that I'm just trying to be defensive. Well what matters is, I love my car. My family loves the ride. I will not care whatever things being said to the fortes on the road. I'm driving one, I know how it feels. I believe all the bros and sis who are driving the Forte know its worth. Just felt like taking my thoughts out of my mind.

Alamak, your friend only driving a mits GLX for god sake. I don't think he's in a position to comment much.

Don't worry about it and enjoy your ride. I'm sure the social stigma associated with MIK will be gone in 6 months time.

Yo bros,
To me i personally think that sooner or later our forte will be the in thing on the road when you mentioned that you got all the features at this price.Being singaporean is all about cheap and good. I personally tink that my ride is just good enough, Cheap and have all the features that i need inside, for the performance i think it is decent enough to move a whole family with minimal effort. The point is that you should be proud with what you have and it will convince the whole nation to go korean. Even the taxis have switch to hyundai. This is just a fad it will slowly fade off the old kia tag and soon the new kia tag will convince people to have a second look. Wait till next year as i think the designer got a whole line up for kia line. Just wait for the kia soul i think that is going to be a best seller besides from forte and koup

Have been driving a Mitsubishi Lancer EX for the past 5 days due to accident...... There are only 6 things that this much $x machine beat Forte..... Horn very loud, air-con very cold, rain sensing wiper, keyless entry and start, smooth leather wrapped steering wheel and less bumpy. But Forte have: side mirror indicator, chrome door handles and rear garnish, motor driven power steering, USB connectivity, telescopic steering wheel, speed sensing auto door lock, electro-chromic rear view mirror and bluetooth. My friend Lexus IS250 doesn't have electro-chromic rear view mirror and bluetooth at all Friend looking down on Forte Affraid

Kia Forte is suitable for value hunters like us. But sadly, there are many brand conscious individuals around. I just agree with what they condemned about Kia, but tell them Forte is different Friend looking down on Forte 332362 Better to stinge on cars, but splurge on properties......

When I was driving the Lexus, my friend came up to me and said why drive a imitiation of West. Lexus is Toyota trying to imitiate the west.
When I was driving the Merc, my friend came up to me and said why drive a Taxi. You could just flap down one.
When I was driving a Volvo, my friend came up to me and said why drive a lunch box. You look like a construction worker.
When I was driving a BMW, my friend came up to me and said why you drive that ugly beast.

Finally, I drive a bicycle and no friend came up to comment about my new ride. Peace at last. Priceless....

Just last Sunday, after parking beside a Nissan Sunny at Perling Mall in JB, the uncle driver in the sunny wind down his window and started small talk with me. He was complimenting the Forte and was asking loads of question about it. My guess was, he was very interested in the car. It goes to show that the Forte is the current talk of the town. And the Forte always get a second look whenever I stopped at a traffic light or cruising down the JB roads. BTW, I lived in JB and the neighbours never fail to start small talks with the Forte as the main topic!

i was filling up petrol last sunday at Shell.
After making payment, while walking out, i saw a guy oogling at my ride.
when i "beep beep" to unlock the doors as i approach... the guy ask me this "what car is this?" i say its a Kia Forte (i change the emblem to retro K so probably can't recognise by 1st look)

the guy replied "oh... nice! is it 2L or 1.6L?"
1.6 i replied... "looks big eh"... ya and i smiled.
He gave me a thumbs up...

Well... thats 1 of the few encounters i had ppl asking me abt my ride... even my sis bf who drives the new civic says its value for money and has features even more than his car...

Post by rforte 10th November 2009, 10:33 am

I bought my 2.0 L at $60k. My friend bought her Lexus 2.5L at $125k.
Its true that many on the streets are still looking at Kia/Korean made car with skepticism and prejudices.

Let me draft this - Example:
Even though both have same income power: -

Its like you staying in a top floor 5room flat (130sqm - maybe about ~$350k) house in Woodlands versus 130m condo (size could be smaller at ~$900k/more) in Bt Timah area.

The perception is that woodlands/Jurong West out of town and inconvenient, however with same floor space, good view, more imptly, but with ($600 k to spare) price that leaves me to buy a lot of other things.

Quality of Life - im better, way better.
Spent a lot of money on renovation and paid hdb loans fully, bought a Kia Forte 2.0L paid fully and go for 3 high end holidays each year.

The rest of my money - invest in shares that have been making good gains last 1 year.

That cannot be said of someone living with very high expenses (but certainly got prestige living in a plush estate) , who is pretty heavy in her expenses.

That said, Live within your means. The face issue will take care of itself in many ways.

Hahaha!! Chill bro!! Every car also there will be ppl looking down on it!! No matter what car you drive!! You drive ferrari or Lambo also there will be ppl looking down on it. Hahaha!! :-)

Currently, in the market, and in this range of cars, from what I have heard, Forte is the most talked about and the one most ppl are impressed with. Not Vios, not City, not Lancer, not i30, not imprezza, etc etc etc. :-)

I have family members driving Benz C class, Peugeot 407 and Toyota Camry. All also agree that the Forte is value for money, with the many gadgets normally only found in more expensive cars. In fact the Toyota driver is resisting very hard from "upgrading" to a Forte 2L.

Only 1 BMW 5 series member says why buy Korean. But I just said it is of quality built and most importantly fits my budget. Just smile it off and don't bother to be draw into a "this brand vs that brand" debate.

We all like to hear complimentary words. But when you hear negative comments, just ignore them. Frankly, if you can afford a Bentley, who wants to drive a Kia or Toyota or even a Benz. So in the end, it fits my budget and meet my current need, I'm happy.

If you stand from far and observe the forte against other similar 1.6 cars.. You will notice that the forte's body is HUGE!

Agreed totally. My 3 year son is telling me when I'm nagivating in a MSCP....."daddy drive slowly, your car is big"..... nearly faint when I hear hinm said that lol!

Yeah opinions by people can always be negative, cheap cars they will say too cheap, expensive cars they will say too expensive, branded car will make them feel like a ****, and cheap cars? Kia knows their past image, and they want to transform. If you invested in stocks, you know it is sweetest if you invested before the price shot up, right?

To me, Kia is slow to transform already... its parent company is transforming and it slowly trickles through to Kia. If the guy likes a Hyundai, he is already liking the DNA of Kia.

Chilex wrote:When I first booked my car, my friend who's driving Mits GLX told me that ''Hey why go Korean"? Just felt like taking my thoughts out of my mind.

why not ask him back.. during the 90's, will he say Jap models are still the best?? During that era is continental car rules!! and everyone is critizing on jap car.. Now u compared.. Korean model are just like Jap car during the 90's where pple will comment and degraded it..

Since Forte is a big breakout and I believe korea market is coming big right now as u can see soon after forte and here comes the KOUP..

so.. dont bother about how pple see at your ride... just believe in yourself and your ride naturally feel better than theirs..

Just like mine.. when I drive back to Singapore custom, the officer doing the checking does not know which model or ride im driving.. till I open my door and my scuff plate lighted up with the word "FORTE" then can see from his expression is like OMG.. droolz~ after going to my boots for inspection, the first word he asked me is.. Where do u buy this Retro K emblem.. I believe he is one of the KIA owner too else he wont ask me for the emblem.. Friend looking down on Forte Icon_biggrin

Usually the purposes of us buying car because of the comfort, features and value for money.. if for performance.. do u think Mit GLX is good enough? afterall still need mod.. since so many mod to be done.. why dont go for GTR straight? Soon Forte will shine on him brightly and he will regret asking u "WHY KOREAN" Lolz

no need to defend.....as it has been said...
there are only 2 relevant questions :
why and why not?
the trick is to know which one to ask....
so ask him back .... why not? and let him defend.... Friend looking down on Forte Icon_smile

what car does your friend drive?
nowadays even bankers are driving toyota instead of bmw or lexus

we are all singaporeans, cars here don't last 20 or 30 years like they do in usa
that means whatever you pay - $250k for GTR becomes a $200k depreciation you fork out over a period of 10 years

even your forte makes a 5k+ depreciation per year
are you seriously that rich to spend 15k depreciation per year for a lexus?
or are you dumb enough?
