So basically instead of paying $50 for annual road tax, under the new OPC scheme, you'll be paying $200+ (1.6L)
Good information sharing for OPC fortes here..
Btw, anyone knows the road tax for 2.0L? lazy to check

but bro ace mentioned road tax $846.62 for forte, i assume tats for 1.6L.. 2.0L shd be more?

Re: OPC owners - gentle reminder
scorpey, i think for 2L, you should be looking at a road tax of $1-1.1k before rebate.
hobbes- Junior Member
Re: OPC owners - gentle reminder
eh? I thought our road tax for 1.6L is $738 (based on normal car and source from SG carmart) If new OPC scheme we will pay $738 - $500 = $238?

Re: OPC owners - gentle reminder
Thanks hobbes,
so lets see.. for 2.0L,
assuming $1,100 road tax minus new scheme rebate $500 = $600
$600 divide by $20 (coupon) = 30 coupons
but by paying $600 i will be able to drive for 52 Saturdays..
Conclusion:
For 2.0L, if i wanna drive for more than 30 sats.. den go for new scheme.. i suspose for 1.6L will be anything more than 18 Sat to breakeven.. hope this helps

Re: OPC owners - gentle reminder
Actually the number of Saturdays versus cost thing is hard to measure for everybody's use.
I did find another reason, which is an occasional trip to JB. I would prefer to go jalan jalan on a Saturday than on a Sunday. Opting in allows an earlier day for a long travel, which will be better than 3pm for setting off.
In the end the motivating factor is still like how my daughter phrases it: "Why cannot use the car?" Just pay a little more for the freedom, and weekend trips can be planned with less restrictions.
In the end, the real reason gahmen decides to raise the payable tax may be separate from increased Saturday hours. Perhaps the whole red plate population is paying for the small number of red plates who drive without a day license... just like how the motor insurance goes up and up to cover some people who claim like it is free money... They only hide the real reason by using another possible reason.

the extra money to pay for 1.6L should be:
238 deduct 70 = $168
This is due to after this new scheme starts,
the minimum roadtax payable will be $70 instead of $50.

Yes..that's true. The minimum goes up to $70.
But overall, this increase in due to the change in the scheme, so the extra $$$ to pay out should include this change in minimum road tax.
lwlty wrote:not only 52 sat le don forgot EVE Holiday le? , havent count in.
Nope...there is no change in the scheme where you can drive earlier on the eve of the 5 public holidays...No extra holidays given. No change to Vesak Day, Good Friday, Hari Raja Haji, Labour Day, or even National Day...
I just feel that the $100 admin fees we have to pay to convert as a extra tax that should be waived.

Revised OPC Scheme
By end January 2010, the OPC scheme will be revised to allow
unrestricted usage on Saturdays and the eves of 5 public holidays,
namely, New Year, Lunar New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali and
Christmas. Existing OPC owners can choose to opt into this revised
scheme to enjoy the extended hours in exchange for reduced tax
discounts and an administrative fee of $100.
According to SGcarmart.. seems there is a change to drive full day on eve of the 5 ph?? not for vesak, good friday, hari raya haji, labour day and national day but those mentioned in the revised scheme we can drive on the eve full day rite?

Re: OPC owners - gentle reminder
Yah, i missed out the holiday eves..under new scheme the 5 PH remains unchanged but the eves r to be the same as sats.. in another words.. these 5 holiday eve can drive full day oso.. hence 52 + 5 = 57 days!!

i seem to recall that only those who opt in is subjected to a min of $70. for those that never opt in, the min is still $50.
can any bro confirm this?
i'm considering not opting in. $100 admin fee is too much, they should really waive the fee for current OPC owners.

Re: OPC owners - gentle reminder
this $100 is a 1 time payment right? If yes, then I guess quite worth it since we can use the car (full day) for 57 days per year.

mehmehhh wrote:

found the text.
With the extended usage, the annual road tax discount will be
correspondingly reduced from $800 to $500. The minimum annual road tax
will be $70, instead of $50 under the existing OPC scheme. This means
that existing OPC owners who opt for the revised OPC scheme will have
their annual road tax discounts reduced by between $20 and $300. This
is because the tax concessions given to OPC owners were computed taking
into consideration the restricted usage periods. The removal of
Saturday restrictions and 5 public holiday eves will have to be
accompanied by corresponding adjustments to the tax concessions.
this is how i interpret it. if u opt in to the new scheme, min road tax is $70, if u dun opt in, mean u still under existing scheme, then road tax still $50.
next, opc owners who opt for the revised opc scheme will have their road tax rebated reduced by $20 to $300. the $20 reduction applies to opc picantos since their road tax is $441 (from sgcarmart). even if rebate reduce to $500 still more than enough to cover the reduce tax. so basically opc picantos get saturdays for free. so they come up with this min $70 rule so that opc picantos still pay a nominal sum for their free saturdays under the new scheme. the $300 reduction is $800-$500 which will likely only affect 2.0l and above cars.
cannot be increase my road tax by $20 even if i dun opt in right?

the data entry fee is only a fraction of the $100 i believe, the majority of the $100 conversion fee goes to the computer programmers who change the OPC programs such as road tax calculation, so i think instead of asking LTA to give a breakdown of where the $100 go to, we should lobby LTA to waive the $100 conversion fee for existing OPC based on goodwill ... my 2 cents

Like they will like that...
If I remember correctly....
If you forget to put the cash card when you go through the ERP...
Where do you think most of the fine go to??
IMHO, it's a damn xxyyzz idea to put $$$ as a KPI for certain government sectors or stat boards.
Matter of time, you'll have to pay $$$ to report police too...
Reason... to stop / deterrent for jokers / pple from making nonsense complaints.
Anyway, you guys know that C.A.S.E. requires you to "join" or "become" their member before taking up any of your case... right?
ya ya... I know... $$$ makes the world go round... I'm juz sharing my 2 cent...

mm.. just to update.. remember the topic abt carpark is considered as public road? got a follow up call from LTA enforcement officer yesterday, but less than 2 mins i gave up the discussion with him cos i knew im talking to the wrong person.. he just giving me scenerios of this n that.. but im not keen to discuss.. told him very frankly tat i will drop a mail to LTA/ ST when in free.. cos i bet he know much abt traffic mgt n the whole idea of OPC scheme.. his job just to ensure u dun drive w/o a valid licence.. but did confirm with him tat turning on engine is "ok" provided car dun move..
ok back to odinblade20 question, i did spoke to a LTA staff on this, seems like they r really busy with the new e-day license n there is not much information given when i asked her abt how do existing opc owners opt in for the new scheme.. guess we just have to wait n see.. will be interesting cos its like 2 more months b4 the new scheme kicks in.. mm.. wonder how the hell they going to monitor by then if we r not given the chance to opt in..
