Service Center Empty Service Center

Post by Fortec 8th April 2009, 11:49 am

Based on what I've read on from some forte owners in kia club forum, their 1k and 5k servicing give me bad vibes man.

Those already did thier 1k or 5k servicing, care to share ur experiences?

I plan to use outside service centers once I am done with the 1k and 5k C&C servicing.

Anyone got good recommendations?

My advise is, go for the 1k, 5k and 10k servicing with C&C. After that you can go find your own mechanic to do your regular servicing which normally only costs $120 plus minus. To keep your warranty valid, go back at 30k, 60k, 90k.

So its possible within the warranty period to do servicing outside and go back at 30k, 60k, 90k keep your warranty valid? I was told otherwise by other car brands owners. Thanks for the info! study

If KIA have an International Warranty. Needs to verify with KIA-CnC S'pore.
What will happen if a S'pore KIA kaput in Tomyam or Boleh Land ?

eventhough kia hv an international warranty, i still got no faith in Tomyam or Boleh land. rather play safe by going for local servicing.

1K servicing oil change is to flush out the metal chips and whatever funky stuffs from your engine after running-in 1K mileage.
For the 1K & 5K servicing oil change, they will use cheaper mineral oil.
On the next servicing 10K (& onwards), they will use synthetic oil.

The above is based on the C&C servicing they had with my Picanto.

Another way to help ur engine lessen the initial wear/tear from first 1-5k. You could find a very strong magnet(found in hard disk) and place it on ur oil filter. So metal chips filtered in will die die stay with the magnet. But remember to remove when u go servicing, else magnet later gone Very Happy

Open up ur old hard disk? Heheh!!

I think any good magnet will also do. But the manual didnt state this extra job. U dont really have to go thru the trouble to do that. Just a preference. For me I will.

However i would like to correct that stick the magnet on the oil filter on in the oil filter. Sorry. Laughing

Lol.. you work in harddisk sector??? How you know there is a magnet in there... Well true enough, the harddisk magnet is quite strong but the shape itself might not be suitable if you want a flat one.. Don't go for those whiteboard magentic type.

Actually running in the engine means allowing the piston seals to form properly along the chambers linings.

The seals are formed within the first 100-200km on our odometer.

There are two school of thoughts on how to get them seal properly

1) Run them gently and let the rough bits get grind off/out over time

2) Run them hard on and force them to seal to the way you intend to run them eventually which is of course "HARD" wahaha.

Pro and Cons of 1)
It's like a warm up, or training ur engine to reach that level of performance. The seals are suppose to be slowly seal to the proper specification.
Seals are usually not even and hence might result in leaks during high revs.

Pro and Cons of 2)
Seals are seal fast and straight to the maximum rev spec.
Unexpected situation might arise Razz (Engine warm up is a must and high rev only in 2nd gear and above)

I guess we all know whey manufacturers recommend method 1 even though it won't be perfect, coz there's no way they need to fulfil their warranty of a busted up engine.

You need to jack either your front left or right tyre up. For safety put a wheel chock at the rear tyre.

Note: Not for those who do not like to get their hands dirty. AND quite dangerous if you don't know what you are doing cause you need to go under the car.
