Bros here, is it advisable to run on NS highway before I hit 1k?

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
I think the recommended is
Before 1k km - Below 3k RPM
1k - 5k km - Below 3.5k RPM
Not sure about the rest

Some pple are paid to do that... running in via NSHW.
As long as the car is not packed with 4-5 adult and not rev over 3k rpm, should be ok ba.

wah.. kevin..
you and your bro both drive forte?
Btw the manuals says not to over 4k rpm... and not to stay on same speed over 3mins... so... its kind of hard to drive if you really follows

Not the same speed over 3min? A bit difficult to achieve eh.. every 2 mins i speed up? kekekek by the time reach KL already at >200km/hr. haha.. joking... let's see how to get this sorted with 4k rpm..

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
For my previous ride, full run in came in near to 10k and after oil change after the 10k. Saw a good increase fuel efficiency then.

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
mine going for 10K servicing next Tuesday....going to change oil to syn oil and hoping for better FC after that....
still thinking if I should also change my manual gearbox oil to syn oil too.....

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
syn oil sure better FC. But have to see their oil weight. W30/40/50
aural- Senior Member
Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
CnC using Shell Ultra Helix ....but duno it is W30,40 or 50 ?

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
the weight matters alot in terms of FC, you can call them up and ask about the engine oil code, they should tell you.

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
so may i know which syn oil is best ? heavier better or lighter better ? sorry for noob question.

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
Heavier oil is supposed to protect your engine better. However with better research there are lighter weight oils that give good protection too.
Lighter weight oils in general gives better fuel efficiency.

You forgot to add....
Lighter oils also lesser protection and gets hot faster too.

So that means lighter oils will overheat the engine in the long run ?

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
supposed to be but of course if you read about the "technology" in the research of the newer oils, they claim to protect and engine in in that aspects too.

In a nut shell, oils are "spoilt" when they are too thin...
But however, if it's too thick, the -ve points come into the picture...
But like mentioned, technology comes into play... but technology comes with a price... usually, a much higher price.
Some people actually uses the engine oils that "giant", Carefore sells and feels it's just a good and price wise... much cheaper.
But you'd juz have change more frequently.
e.g. Fully Syn to change @ 10k... Juz change yours @ 8k lor.
Anyway, IMHO, even some of the "branded" oilsbreak down super fast... I had to change the oils even before the required distance.

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
Ummm....what are the symptoms of oil needing to be changed ?
Black smoke ?
Sluggish performance ?

Personally, my exp with my Bike is... gets hot a lot faster...
Gear shifting not smooth... (Manual)
For Auto cars... not very sure still...
But change it within the recommended range should be fine.
*Some Euro car needs oils changes every 20k KM.

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
We may not feel the "sluggish" feeling that obviously but you can see your FC worsen towards the 10k servicing mark and it can be quite obvious.

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
i think no special run-in needed for this engine.. manuals say anything below 4k for 1st 600km? IIRC..
so after that should be able to wack.. abit liao.. me just over 1.5k.. now i am rev quite frequently to 4k.. and engine respond is getting better i feel...
As fro engine oil, i think maybe its better if we could get them our own? we could get a little freebies too..(umbrella?)

Don;t think so.
For a car's FC varies quite a fair bit considering the size...

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
FriesL, you mean bring our own engine oil when doing servicing ? Got what freebies huh ?
pessimizt- Senior Member
Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
oh..i think someone mentioned we could.., for freebies it depends on the e.oil you buy... for CC current 10k servicing is umbrella... (red color one..shell should be..)

Re: how long is needed for engine to run in?
Mine now is 3500km. Think still got at least another month to go to reach 6000km.
