Stripping the Centre Pillars... Empty Stripping the Centre Pillars...

Post by waypoint 4th August 2009, 7:10 pm

So, being the OCD that I am... And still in the wake of inspiration after my limited success at stripping the door panels, I decided to strip the Centre Pillars to see what else could be causing the occasional "zee-zee", "tick-tick" or squeaking sounds. After some trial and error, since I didn't have the service manual with me when I decided to do so, I manage to pry open all four plastic scuff plates and then removed the black-coloured plastic trim/panel.

1. There is no need to remove the white/beige trim on the upper half of the Centre Pillar! Don't mess with that since the whole adjustable seat-belt anchor point is in there.

2. The plastic scuff plates with the chrome-coloured toothed clips are a ***** to remove!

Inside...

There is nothing much in there, really except for the seat beat restraint unit, a bunch of taped-up wires which when rubbed together or against the painted pillar made some semblance of the offending sounds/noises. So, a couple of cable-ties and duct tape, here and there later. All done.

Did it help? Dunno? Haven't driven the car after the amateur DIY trouble-shooting yet. Had to go for my evening run.

Will keep the board updated after I do so. *fingers crossed* Suspect

Dunno? I'm not very handy with electricity. I dozing off most of the time during my electrical engineering module back in school. LOL!

But the whole point of the exercise being to tape and tie down any possible bunch of wires which may be loose, shakey and/or squeaky when rubbed against one another or with something else when the car is on the move due to either vibration or resonance.

No la.

Aeroplane noise is becos the elect current is affecting the speaker's signal cable, that's why get the noise.

Very common problem actually, that's why usually ICE cables are shielded.
