Re: Recommended wax brand
Autoglym is one of the top end brand for waxing and polishing.
Soft99 is good too !
didnt hear that it will spoil the paint, but what i know is that if you were to use scratch removal wax, it will slightly thinner the paint
here is how it works :
Scratches spotted
Apply scratch removal wax
the wax will smurge the paint surrounding the scratches INTO the scratches thus "removing the scratches"
and the surrounding paint gets thinner
Keep track autobac promo, sometiems they have package deals for autoglym products and it runs out damn fast !

Re: Recommended wax brand
I have been using Autoglym Resin Polish on my previous black ride, and then touch up with Autoglym sealant. Till last Sat when I surrendered my car, the shine remains. Might be slightly ex, but I think it's well-spent.

I am using soft99 on my bike as well, in my opinion, i find that soft 99 can remove dirt and stains easily compared to other wax (not sure about autoglym though)
I had a friend riding a ST-13 white in color, and got stubborn stains (no matter how much washing also cant remove) all over, after using soft99, it became back to stock white color.
yeah i rmb a brand when wax on off, it leaves residues (somewhat like dry flakes) all over and hard to wipe off.
Soft 99 after apply and after some time for it to "dry", it will have a layer of dry flakes as well, but its easily clean off and u will see the gossy shine on your vehicle.

Re: Recommended wax brand
In Singapore climate, wax not really a good protecter as it doesn't last long, unless u don't mind waxing it every week...choose a good sealant which offer longer protection especially for those that park their rides outdoor daily....then after u can maintain yr ride by washing with shampoo every week, follow by QD or Aquawax from Duragloss....then depend on condition, polish n sealant once every 2-3mths...

Re: Recommended wax brand
last time i rem the flaking off particles type is the turtle wax.. Sucks man..
Soft 99 is GOOD.....
not only regain original shine but also remove the MILKY Yellow color off his white ST-13..
Well Auto Glym the resin polish works good with scratches.. then after that with the liquid glass polish wax to seal up the painjob. slightly more ex.. but good product.. using that since 3 bikes ago. .
Thumbsup
Alternatively, can go do
http://www.ar2performance.com/overview.htm
there is one for cars...>
Totally seal up ur paintjob. NO SCratches ... Jus wash .. no need wax and polish.. everytime sure shiny...

Ok, me no expert in grooming, here's what I do:
1) Gently wash the car to clear dust and dirt
2) dry car
3) apply autoglym super resin polish gently over dry car under cool shaded area (http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=HD&Range=1)
4) leave to dry for about 20-30 mins, wipe off the dry compound with cotton cloth
5) apply the Extra Gloss Protection and leave it to dry for about 20-30 mins (http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=FH&Range=1)
6) wipe off the dry compound layer off the car
7) go to bright area, see the fruit of your hard labor and immense patience.
8) you can use the super resin polish on your rims for the blink blink appeal
I am quite intensive on applying the sealant virtually once every 2 months to give my ride a foundation layer.

Re: Recommended wax brand
be mindful microfiber cloth pics up dirt like magnet. So when u wanna polish or clean with microfiber. Exercise caution. If not u be creating scratches rather then removing..
IMO.... use those smooth cloth u buy from DIY shop (those diff color one use to polish boots or musci instrument type).

There is this S$2.50 Meguiar round shaped applicator which I get from Autobacs to apply the applications.
For cloth, the normal cotton cloth. But each time after using, I use heavily to make sure that the debris is properly washed off.

It's a long standing brand and I think they make some good car wax but if you want a longer lasting protection sealant would be a better option

Re: Recommended wax brand
Don't need if your car is brand new..you run your fingers over the surface of your car, if you feel it's smooth, there is no need to claybar the car first. The claybar is to remove embedded impurities like grit and sandblasting particles before waxing.

I tested this on my Forte, and found that the result is good. Germany product: Voltronic. http://www.voltronic-germany.com/Ultra-Gloss-Polish-M80.htm Very easy to apply, wash, dry, apply, dry, wipe off, enjoy the shine and smoothness.

I just waxed my car with Turtle wax. Not bad. Very fast drying and easy to buff off. Must just remember not to apply too much, or there'll be a lot of residue.

astroboy28 wrote:siaoster,
y too much claying no good lay
claybar is to smoothen your car surface from grinds stuck there or paint that has slightly chipped off by hitting stones of grinds.
claybar actually acts like a sandpaper, to smoothen your surface, it has to remove a very thin layer of the surface...so imagine if keep using claybar, theoritically it keeps removing ur paint layer.
Siaoster- Moderator
Re: Recommended wax brand
Claybar does not behave like sandpaper, its properties safetly remove rail dust and industrial fallout by "pulling it off the surface." It should not cut or perform any abrasive action normally associated with polishing or compounding.
It's safe to use claybar as compare to constanly applying polish which contain very fine abrasive materials....only thing to make sure, is not to reuse the portion of the claybar that u have pick up the contaminents...always start on a fresh side...

then after pulling it off, how does it actually smoothen the thing ?
by not reusing the used portion ? wont that make the clay bar limited sides available ?
