Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
Mine quite consistent about 10L/100 km for my previous few pumps on Esso 5000...
Current tank pump Esso 2000... Wanna see if there's any diff...
if no diff, may as well save the extra $$ for my own drinks...
hahahaha....
I pump Esso using CitiBank Esso Priviledge card linked to Citibank Dividend Card...
Got 5% (station d/c) + 5% (Dividend card d/c)...
On top of this got 5% Dividend card cash rebate (must accumulate more than $50 then they will send a cheque to you...)
Total effective d/c is 14.5%
If consider Esso Smiles points earn, add another 3.2%
Cos every $1.25 spent (after d/c), earns you 1 smiles pt...
So the highest you can get is 14.5% + 3.2% = 17.7%

Yes. Our manual states our car is tuned for 92 oct. Anything more is a waste of money, but its your car and your money.

Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
... anything lower then 95 is doing harm to yr engine guys, better fuel have better cleaning effect on yr engine. low grade petrol will make yr engine become older faster as their cleaning addictive is lesser, i once seen a engine with full coated carbon all round the engine about 0.1cm thick... cheap stuff doesn't means good stuff. pay a little more or reasonable price make me happy & my ride more smooth & cleaner.
Fransge- Junior Member
Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
Spore's fuel is safe and clean. Don't think there is any diff between 92, 95 and 98 in terms of the cleaning addictive. The diff is only the octane number based on the engine's needs. IMHO, 92 is good enough for forte as the engine is tuned to "drink" 92 fuel.
ck7373- Junior Member
Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
but actually, 95 & 98 is much cleaner. 92 not so clean its thru, lower grade fuel also burn faster. unless u pump 92 with other addictive which will be not economical tho.

Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
to each is own i believe.
i did pump a small amount of 95 over the weekend. the diff i can feel is:
1) my pocket more pain
2) it accelerate abit faster.
as for the engine scum thing with 92, don't think has much effect, cos even the people who play with cars (for that I mean people who overhaul engine) for years cannot tell significant diff. I was only recommend higher octane petrol once awhile.
my personal fuel consumption over 2 months did not show that 92 grade affects FC for our forte though. so i think its rather safe.
but will pump higher octance when price is right. I don't work in petrol company so I won't get that money back. hahaha, so what is good for me is good for my car, cos my car is my servant and not vice versa.

Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
I think one can feel the engine performance in the long run (like 5 years and more) ?
If one is intending to change cars 3-4 years down the road......then i think will not get to feel much different.
If intending to drive all the way (aka 10 years), then maybe can feel the difference (engine noise, performance, etc) ? Forte is still very new so still hard to say.
I got a friend who drives a 5 year old Vios and he pumps Vpower cos he claims that it sort of like 'protect' and 'cleanse' the engine. And i think it indeed have not much noise compared to another 3year old Vios who pumps 95.
But come to think of it, i think still depends on how a person drives too bah ? And also have to go for regular maintenance too.
So far have tried 92 on 2 tanks, pick-up is indeed a tat slower than the previous 95.
Just my opinion.

Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
that could be true.. since octane is giving the heat.. and therefore combustion power.. not sure if engine is cooler ? heee....
FriesL- Senior Member
Re: Recommended Petrol Refilling For Forte
When it comes to octane number... it really does not matter to maintenance or use in the long run. If we happen to pump RON 88 then the engine will die in under 1 minute, because it will detonate before the spark plug sparks.
I read before in a forum, the high pressure engines like the one in the Honda Integra runs at a higher compression than our Forte engines, so it explains why that Integra model needs RON 95, but if their engine has a knock sensor, then it will reduce the air-fuel mixture to an extent that it will not detonate easily, but leading to lousy performance. Those cars will feel a difference when you pump different fuels.
