Fransge wrote:... anything lower then 95 is doing harm to yr engine guys, better fuel have better cleaning effect on yr engine. low grade petrol will make yr engine become older faster as their cleaning addictive is lesser, i once seen a engine with full coated carbon all round the engine about 0.1cm thick... cheap stuff doesn't means good stuff. pay a little more or reasonable price make me happy & my ride more smooth & cleaner.

I drove a Civic last time which drank nothing but 98oct for 6years. Every year when I looked at the throttle body for cleaning it is coated with black oily film. Low Octane petrol isn't the reason for the carbon, it's your engine blowback venting out from your engine to your air intake. All engines will have carbon coated on the valves, throttle body and intake manifold over time, it's normal one even if you use Vpower exclusively.

Octane gives heat? Actually, octane retards premature combustion, so your engine doesn't detonate prematurely if your engine is running hot. That's why engines that have high compression pistons or are running forced induction need higher octane, to prevent it from detonating under high load. Our engines compression is that of a typical natural aspirated engine, it doesn't need high octane petrol.

Hi, Bro Tiny

Yes you are right and sorry for the confusion, was told this by some lousy mech... did my wiki lesson... thumbsup in fact this comes to my next question... of such that V-power so to speak could produce better millage and better power? Question but did realize that most country V-power are usually high octane fuel... with hongkong > 100...

I don't know what additives Vpower has, but it's probably just cleaning agents to clean your intake valves and tracts. Maybe you can find out more from Shell's official website, but I doubt there's nothing more than marketing mumbo jumbo there.

As for Octane, it is just an arbitary number to measure the fuel's resistance to detonation. It is NOT a measure of the power energy stored in the fuel or its burning speed.
