Koup's handling Empty Koup's handling

Post by redkoup 5th December 2009, 9:21 am

Tested the Koup's handling along the twisty 99 bends, portsdown rd and some other undisclosed but safe location. Found it very neutral and not much bodyroll. The manual gearbox was a joy to use as power is always to tap to power thru the bends safely. The hydraulic steering was nicely weighted - not too heavy or light. Under very sharp flowing turns, could feel the ESP kick in slightly and the slide was quickly corrected and the car remain pointed. Overall, the confidence in the Koup juz went up another notch. thumbsup

honda's power steering is overly assisted and too light. i prefer a heavier feel.

for auto, gotta use tiptronic function. the auto's gear ratios are abit longer than the manual's so may hv to keep the revs up to stay within the useable powerband.

i believe in his review, given that his description of the handling befits a FWD coupe. any FWD + front-engined car that tries to challenge a tight bend would meet with an understeer and a fair bit of a bodyroll. i don't recommend FWD cars to tackle a bend with high speed, or else like what omg2door said, went into opposite lane.

if you really like handling, perhaps wait for another 5 years before you change to a BMW?

it's not entirely true that FWD can't take corners. in fact, in the hands of novices, FWD is actually better as it's easier to control understeer than oversteer. alot of it has to do wif how the suspension is setup. for example, a FWD Type-R can jiak corner easily but the ride is rock hard and not very practical for daily road use.

it can still handle corners but not so agile as compared to RWD. a RWD m-powered beemer can still smoke a FWD Type R around the bend. that "understeer" is the culprit. unless you pull out a AWD, that is. Koup's handling Icon_redface

actualli, good handling is made up of many factors, not juz whether it's FWD, RWD or AWD. other impt factors incl weight distribution, CG, spring rates, IRS or wishbone or multi-link or torsion beam, tyre, steering geometry, etc, etc.
