Ah, the number of COE is getting trimmed and the numbers is not going up any time soon. I would say otherwise... the price of COE is at its "lowest" now! Its expected to rise (by quite a bit) in the coming months!

just came back from test drive, tested the 2m and 1.6a cause ubi dun have 1.6m... surprisingly today not much ppl, could test drive the car straightaway...

tested the 2m first and found the throttle too sensitive; tap a little and it rushes forward... guess this car's dictionary don't have "move slowly"... good thing i didn't stall though... lol...

when i switched to the 1.6a, i was like, "oh man, this is so easy to drive..." felt comfortable in it immediately...

i find the 1.6's power is sufficient for this car, unlike the megane (my dad's car) which is super heavy... one problem though is the super big side mirrors... when i was turning right, the mirror blocked my view and i couldn't see the nose of my car nor the taxi's... think this is a big problem for me because I always come very close to the right nose during parking and overtaking (better the right nose where i can see than the left that i can't)...

i tried 1.6AT with 3 passengers. It is sluggish cos of the heavy body.

Later on I tried 1.6MT with only 1 passenger. Of course, it is much better and much much more fun to drive.

Hi guys, its me again. lol

While on the move and trying to hit max speed, yes hp is the factor.

But i think what applies more for us is trying to tap power and overtake while on the move. This is where torque comes in. And of course weight counts as well.

Wanna compare 1.6 with 1.6 at around the same price range, we will have:

Chevrolet Cruze
Chevrolet Optra Magnum Estate
Chevrolet Optra Magnum Sedan
Hyundai Avante
Hyundai i30
Hyundai i30 WagonKia Cerato Forte
Mitsubishi LancerMitsubishi Lancer MR
Nissan Sunny
Proton Persona
Proton Satria Neo
Renault Clio
Renault Megane Sedan
Skoda Roomster
Suzuki Swift Sport
Suzuki SX4 Hatchback
Suzuki SX4 SedanToyota Corolla Altis

And out of all these, which one you think has the most torque to weight ratio?

My guess would be the Swift Sport...

If you're talking about overtaking then yes, torque is more important... Then again, u'll usually be maintaining ur rev at the max torque during normal driving.... during overtaking, u'll drop a gear and use more hp than torque...

Tats my pt bro, for 1.6 hw many cars can hit tat kinda of HP.
i've personally hit 160km/h in malaysia with 4 ppl in the car and i dun feel underpower at all. Tats y i dun really understand base on what factor do u consider underpower?
Of course if u compare with conti cars then also not apples to apples.

Just my 2 cents.

Torque to weight based on official specs (1.6l):
Forte = 156Nm / 1326kg = 0.11765
Swift Sport = 140Nm / 1100kg = 0.12727
Corolla Altis = 107Nm / 1255kg = 0.08525
Mitsubishi Lancer = 106Nm / 1115kg = 0.09507
Avante = 121 Nm / 1172kg = 0.10324

Bro Corgel, looks like your guess is right. Test driving tomorrow... Icon_biggrin

Hmmm, very interesting. I am no pro here, but I find your view above differs from mine.
Just trying to clarify though. I might be wrong. lol.

I feel that during normal driving (cruising along HW), I normally use the highest gear (eg, 5th) and the engine will be around 3000rpm (depending on my speed).
This is not the rev range where I will get max torque. Max torque is at 4500++rpm.
This is why when I need to overtake, I will drop a gear to keep the rev high so that I can use the torque needed to propel the car forwards.

But of course I guess hp is important too. Besides, they always say

HP = rpm x T(torque) / 5252

Actually, forte's max torque is at 4200... After reading your post, I went to read up on torque and found this super long article here: http://www.seight.com/torque.html

I didn't know an average car's torque is above 4k, always had the misconception that its around 3k... if this is the case then yes, torque is more important than hp when overtaking...
