not pirated map.. I got both type of map... malsingmap and Jerome map... both also wont load...cause when select map in the gps.. it show no map...
but when I put the map into the gps internal memory it work....
No the centre console not here yet.. so I only temperally fit up the gps and the dvb-t tv for testing... I still got a few other things await for arrival.....e.g. media player, dvb-t antenna booster, centre console, backup cam etcs
I need to make the SD card load the map.. else when I fix the GPS into the centre console I will faint whenever I need to update map...
Dont know if everything can come in by this week then Sat I will do everything up.. else have to wait and see...

Re: Garmin Nuvi SD Card Question
if not wrong, for Garmin systems, the purpose of SD card is for you to update maps only...... once there is update for a map, you copy it to SD card, then store the map in the Garmin internal memory.

Re: Garmin Nuvi SD Card Question
I'm not sure.... but I think you use a Mac? There is something that the formating has to be on FAT16 or 32. Something like that.
The other possibility is the type of SD card. Some device don't take the super fast transfer SD card.
And another is the memory size of the SD card. Some may not be able use those that are 8G or higher....
This are what I remembered reading but I'm not exactly sure...
Probably waypoint will be able to explain this much more technically that I am.

Re: Garmin Nuvi SD Card Question
1. You says you have two garmins? What models are they?
2. The MSM map come with which model?
3. When you say it works when in internal memory, did it work in both models?
4. When you have the maps in SD cards, did you delete the maps from the internal memory?

Re: Garmin Nuvi SD Card Question
Before you delete the original preloaded maps, I hope you have back it up....
Ok...
If the MSM comes with nuvis...., if my memory serve me correctly, it works only in the internal memory. The maps that you are coping into the SD card, are they the same files that you are trying to move from internal to SD card?
Ok...

Re: Garmin Nuvi SD Card Question
Do you have Mapsource and maps in there for you to generate a test gmapsupp.img map?
If you could....generate a test mapset and copy it into the SD card, fire up the garmin and see if it can read the mapset.

Re: Garmin Nuvi SD Card Question
Glad to hear that the problem is resolved. I've just called my friend on this problem....if you are still interested...
If you are moving the preloaded MSM file from internal memory, you must change the name of the files from:
gmapprom1.img and gmapprom1.unl
to
gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp.unl respectively.
And of course, delete the gmapprom1.img and gmapprom1.unl from the internal memory or rename them to another name.

Thanks ace.. hmm I dont think the gmapprom1.img work for my nuvi 5000... cause I try put gmapprom1.img in the internal memory and it wont work...
I have been using gmapsupp.img and gmapprom.img...
Now the question is so confirm for nuvi 5000 can only load 1 map in the SD card only... hmm.. need to take note of that..
Another thing is poi work in sd card also right??? SD card -> Garmin/POI/rest of the poi files
What about GPX can I put it in sd card also??

Re: Garmin Nuvi SD Card Question
There can only be one gmapsupp.img at any one time in the SD card garmin directory.
If you have other maps in the same name as gmapsupp.img, you have to store them in other directory away from the \garmin directory....
e.g \garmin\USA or \garmin\Japan or \garmin\Australia
Or buy loads of SD card and put them individually in those cards.
For the POI, put them in the SD card directory \garmin\poi
I think the GPX have to stay in the internal memory.
