I don't think so, insurance is to the owner not to you.

hi, means if the owner buy the insurance, if other drive the car, will the other driver be covered by the insurance?
what i know is if the driving licence is more than 4-5 yrs, no need to buy additional insurance for coverage.

This is dependent on the individual insurance policy that you purchase. You need to find out the details of the insurance coverage from the person you are purchasing it from.

Well, it depends I think on what type of insurance and how much you pay. I understand that if lets say your dad only opts for the type that covers himself, he pays less or maybe this service is free now. Not sure. However, he can opt to include your mum into the policy too. And if he wants to, he can include you too on top of himself and your mum. Think max is 3, or is it 4? Can remember. :-)

Insurance question Empty Re: Insurance question

It should be Comprehensive insurance policy for Forte. Comprehensive: regardless of experience and age - It Covers all (name or unname drivers, 3rd party, properties). premium is usually over $1500/yr.

Premium depends on the type of plan you want to take on. after 1 year or now you can choose to change the insurer and adopt other type of policy with another company. Most people conceern is the claim process. Either people claim against you or you against them - see who fault. Both can be at fault too. If don't use insurance: Outside settle.

Most importantly act on the basic driving rules to Be safe and sound.

When i we got our Forte the SE did not ask for my driving experience or accident claim (1st time owning car).

When i was working in General insurance company. Age (as the law permit), Driving experience and NCD are basis for calculating premium.

For insurance have to be comprehensive because we took a loan unless your car is loan free then it is not compulsory.

The AIG plan that you have is comprehensive for sure.
Usually most companies can name up to max 3 named drivers without affecting the premiums. However there will be clauses that in the event the car is being driven by someone who is "young" or inexperienced, the excess will be usually higher or for some companies not even covered.

Different companies cover would have different T&C.

If i seem quite knowledgeable, it is becos i am also working as a BROKER =p

For the driving experience thing, i believe your SE would have a record when you test drive the forte previously. Lol. If too young they will have to do special quote for your also.

I'll see how i can help with some questions you guys might have.

When u purchase a new car, the insurance is usually comprehensive unless u request otherwise.

Insurance question Empty Re: Insurance question

Post by leeking 9th October 2009, 11:39 pm

Hi, I was advised by my SE to buy the car and get it insured under my father's name.

Dun know if I wanted it this way lei...

Firstly, what is the diff in excess if I buy under my name and I buy under my father. SE told me both is high since Im young and new driver (26 yrs old)

Secondly, in the future, can the NCD/ car ownership be transfered? Is the process hard and expensive?

Pls advise... I might be gg down tmw to book the car, and Im still not sure abt this part.

Well, your dad I am assuming is much older rite?? Hahaha!! :-)

I think if its under your dad's name pay quite a bit less. :-)

As for the NCD and car ownership, I am sure can. But whether process is hard and/or expensive, I have no idea. :-)
