leaving my car for 3 weeks Empty leaving my car for 3 weeks

Post by patsy 12th October 2009, 1:29 pm

going on a biz trip and will not use the car for 3 weeks... should i get someone to come and start the car regularly?

also, have had the car for 3 weeks now, so far have only ran 480 km, is there a time frame when the 1 km servicing must be done (ie. break in the engine within a set number of days?)

Yeah, if u can get people to just start engine would be good also. 3 weeks a little long to leave the engine cold. What Kapitan say is true but good practice not to leave it totally cold for too long. Also the 1k servicing, if cannot do within 6 months, i think u still have to go do it since for warranty sake, it is mileage or time (6 months) whichever is earlier.

New cars are shipped from Korea to Europe, a sea voyage of sometimes more then three weeks.... at discharge port, the car is started at one crank..... broom, start and drive off to the quay and parked there until the trailer comes along to pick it up.......

Old cars, that's another story.......

To be safe, you can drive your car to my car park, which is on way to airport, park your car there leave me the keys and continue your journey to the airport by taxi, quite convenient, only $5.00 and 5 minutes.....

Then your car will be looked after by security and of course by me personally.... hahahhaaa....

The maid can take driving lessons using your car. And in your carpark only too. First start engine, than step on brake, than switch gear to drive, and ease off the brakes, tap on accelerator...watch the speed..."bang"...."Hello madam....dunno who bang your car..." *faint*

Ayah dun worry, start engine is simple. My dad used do that when i was young (12 years old). I just go down to turn the engine on and wait 5 min, off and go back up my house.

Just manual lock the door with key if your car fitted with alarm to save some battery power. I tested with my previous 2yrs old car for >3wks.....cranking power was good thereafter.....

Actually, its not the worry that the batt will die but overall good maintaince i guess to keep the batt charging and discharging. Longer lifespan i think. Not an expert in this just sharing what i thought is a urban myth lol.
