Damn sad now.... Empty Damn sad now....

Post by samuelj 14th January 2010, 3:01 pm

Collected my car 4 days ago.... Lend my friend drive awhile, he bua my rims, now one of my rims got a 5 cm deep scratch and the tyre like bits of it drop off. Is it safe to drive with some bits of the rubber dropped off? The rubber came off at the side of the rims....

Also if i bring to the workshop, can I change the rims using the spare rims at the boot? Is it the same rims as the other 4? Need to change the back left hand side rims....

for SX the spare rim is the same...not sure for EX....

It will depend on how much of the rubber dropped off...if too deep then dont play play..

yup all the same... for front rim best is to use the old tires.. else if 1 side new 1 side old.. u might have a pulling to 1 side...

so e.g. front left tires is the damage.. then swap the rear left tires to the front then put the spare tires at the rear tires...

of coz will be best to swap the 2 back to front...

you dont need to go to workshop to spare your tires...if there is a charge... you can just do it yourself if u want to save $$

Bro so sorry to hear that.

you can check if the sizes of the wheels issit the same.
If you care using 215/45/17" spare should see the same on the tyres.

If same, no nid go workshop, do some self changing wheels, duno also must learn!

Anyway don't worry lah, kerb rash will happen sooner or later. Many bros here already experience these. I have them on 3 wheels and 1 of the tyre actually slice off about 1mm thick piece from the side wall. But so far still ok after 2 months driving. So didn't bother to change. If you're worried, go tyre shop to check. Swap the brand new spare for use, then buy a 2nd hand tyre to replace the damage one as spare. I did the same thing for my previous ride when I had a punctured tyre.

if side wall peel then its actually pretty serious as the side wall is the thinnest part of the tires... Worst case scenario is the tires exploding during hard cornering... it'll be best to go workshop to check the extent of damage...

Err.. side wall is a term used to describe the side of the tire.. usually if kanna nails will normally be at the tread area and can be repaired quite easily.. but damage to side wall.. to certain extend cannot be repaired.. so must change tire.. Smile

im not sure if u already got used to forte.. if not, i sugguest jus check for any leakage for now.. after u got used to the car liao den change lor.. *touch wood* jus in case u kanna again.. =P

Trade in your old rims, they will probably give you same price also altho got a bit of dent. Not sure. Hahaha!! But think so lah!! :-)

Anyways its a good excuse. :-)

As a friend, I wouldnt mind. Unless of course I broke as hell lah!! Hahahaha!! :-)

I think you should ask him to pay since it's caused by him. If he is your friend, he should stand up and pay for it whether it's repairable or replacement lor. If not, he is just a "FRIEND" only when good time but run away when thing go BAD lor!

Kerb rash, yes, I agree. But I don't think the thread starter's friend should just keep mum about it and act blur. A friend would, at the very least, pay for a new tyre. Reasonable, right?

And if a true friend, indeed, have the defaced section of the wheel 'repaired' also. Especially so, if this friend of his drives and owns a car himself.

Sheesh... And I'm not even trying to instigate anything here.

3 things never to lend anyone:

1. Wife
2. Car (2nd wife)
3. Money

all these 3 will have hard feelings in future.

but anyway, don't think u should wash ur spare tyre liao, wipe it instead, cos ur side wall peel liao, if i am not wrong it exposed the carcass right? water might seep through... However, it is good enuff as a spare, so don't need to do much.

Drove a car with the side wall about 1 inch gone, can see the white carcass, but manage for a few months without problem though, but i don't mean u should try it. since its a spare liao, just keep it in the boot

I cant see the white carcass yet, think the car hit at quite low speed... some rubber came off about the size of a 10 cent coin la... thickness also about 10 cent coin thickness. Only the rims had a 5 cm "rash"... in e end my dad sand down the damaged rims and I changed the tyres/rims and put in the boot... Well as for that friend... No need to say liao, i see his true colours...
