Yup TORCHLIGHT FTW...

And to lukester, i get what u mean. And no i dont stay at Yew Tee, that's my wife-to-be house. I live at Geylang Bahru. When married, my wife wanted this estate BTO which Im not suppose to say yet (not announced to public). That BTO estate takes 6 years to finish. So two houses to live. And yes I work at Changi Airport but my wife works at cck. That's where the car comes in. Don't worry, I have been looking at small cars.

Getting away from the gloom... back to TORCHLIGHT...

lukester wrote:Bro I hope all works well on Saturday.

However I think a koup is not realistic even I think I have more finacial freedom than your current situation (based on ur pay n lifestage). I dun have much financial burden, single and spends only on food when I go out.

But for me even a forte is stretching me abit. I have just nice each month, quite little savings other than personal insurance. Of cos having a car is a very good and life changing experience. To name a few, I saved heaps of time which I compared to public transport as home to office is far.

My office is at changi n stay yishun on average I spend 260 a month on petrol even after petrol discount n rebates. I consider that as quite fuel efficient already as my place hit the highway rather convinently. If I dun remember u stay yewtee??? Maybe u should factor at least 300 a month for petrol alone.

Realistically I feel maybe u can start to look at a smaller car? Hope that helps, and hopefully whatever outcome it might be, u will be happy in the future.

Can I add some of my personal exp, I'm 29 being a fresh grad having a 2400- 2600 driving picanto working at Milliena Towers, I only drive like only weekends and special occasions to work, monthy downpayment is 400 which I can a dream having a car and still able to do some savings.
Try start with something small, slowly work your way up, after some years of savings, Koup is my next level dream. I still cannot booked one yet, but soon.

Work on smaller goals and only when smaller goals are achieved. bigger goals can be set. esp for us fixed salaries.

btw I stay in Yee tee, if you see an orange picanto with black bonnet thats me

i think it does not really matter how much your salary is, rather how much you are able to save and spend on the car

personally i spend less than 500 per month and i usually have around 2k left at the end of the month, so i think a car is affordable for me currently although i'll be honest that if the car were slightly cheaper it'd be better

regardless of what others say, you are only young once... even if you have to stretch alittle just to own a nice sporty car in your youth, i think its worth it
my dream car would be something like the honda accord or the nissan teana but i'm still too young to be driving such cars... so no worries for me, but if i'm like 50 and don't have such a car, i'd really stretch to get one

Because of my working location is in town, rather save up the parking fees, my building season parking per mth is $320.
That is almost my monthly down payment.
I used it occasion like going to RT after work or meet up with friends which will be after midnight.

My point is not on OPC, is how as a person progress in life, how a person set goals to reach it.
From my exp, I having passion on cars when young, I wanted car maybe a civic or a car 1.6L (Long term goal) 5-6 years goal
since my NS days when I'm 22, I started out something small goals saving 100 buck aside for this, (short term goal)

as life goes on, factors will change, during my Uni days my family is in need of the family car.
So after much consideration, my family and I decided on buying the cheapest car in the market base on our needs.

Since then, picanto is my stepping stone towards my dream, with 7 year loan now reaching 5th year soon, I would able get some cash back and around few thousands with 100 per mth savings.

bro, what I want to highlight is having a goal towards Koup is good, but you need to take one step at a time.
no choice, we are not born with sliver spoon or some lucky *** that strike 1Mil TOTO

For myself, I might not even have chance to buy Koup which I'm dreaming every night.
Hope I still welcome here.

why do you have to be so negative?
just because i spent 5 or 10k more wouldn't make me an instant bankrupt but just to save that 5k you go and buy a picanto and regret later only to pay more to change yet again after just 1 or 2 years
that will be a real waste of money

there r many type of car buyers.. some go for performance, some go for looks, some just go for a basic transport from point to point.. i think all critical points have been raised and the final decision its really up to individual.. =)

nightstar>> i think ur picanto abt same age as mine (assuming i didnt change to forte) urs also SFN plate? those days even OPC picanto cost a bomb.. my old COE was $27K before rebate.. can u imagine when i get my forte 2L, the price is just a little bit more compared to my old picanto price?! its time to change.. Well, i think if you got $2K excess every month, it is safe to consider a car.
I wonder if the TS consider servicing and road tax into his budgeting.
Half yearly Road tax for 1.6L is $3XX and this may coincide with major servicing for every 10K. And around 30K & 40K mileage you will need to change the 4 tires & that's another $4XX.
So, if your take home pay is low, every 6 months or so you will be har hitted.

I always believe, if head not big, dont wear such a big hat. DECLINED... says Maybank - Page 6 Icon_biggrin

pegasus is right, a fren of mine who is very good in analysis (biz analyst mah) once commented to own any car in Sg, one must be prepared to fork out at least $1k a month (minimum) and this amount is subjected to variables such as driving pattern/ usage etc.. hence, i believe a forte would be around $2k..

accord or teana mid-30s can easily buy liao. by 40s, you'll be aspiring for a premium conti. by 50s, there are more meaningful things to aspire to than juz owing a jap 2L sedan.

Thanks... yeah my wife will be doing the budgeting for this one. Tmrw going down to KIA. Going to show her the Picanto also. The new facelift one looks nice. Anyways, she likes the KOUP too much since I first showed it to her online when it first came out. Since my bank loan under my name cannot, so technically I have NOT booked the KOUP.
