Clock Spring Empty Clock Spring

Post by Fortec 29th July 2009, 4:56 pm

I rx a letter from CnC asking me to go down and change the clock spring.

All I did was juz mentioned that there's a creaking sound when the steering wheel is turn during my last service.

Did anyone of u get the call/letter to change the clock spring when U feedback the steering creaking sound to them?

So far the creaking sound seem to disappear liao...don't know if I should get the thing change. Next week is the servicing anyways....good timing on the notification.

Fortec, how does the creaking sound sounds like? I have this 'plastic bushing' sound when I turn the steering wheel. It's not exactly a creaking sound, more like a plastic roller on plastic track sound.

I complained about this "cracking" sound during my 1K service.

So far no sound after the service. I think they tightened something ... because the steering wheel feels a bit tighter now ... not as loose as when I first got the car.

Pretty sure I was the first few to complain of the cracking sound during my 1K. Wrote it in MCF causing a bit of concern. They could not rectify it then.

I went down for a checkup on something else lately and again complained of the cracking sound from the steering when I turn. Appears that they found the cause, and just lubricated the clock spring and till now have not heard the sound so far.

FORTEc, the sound should be able to simulate out.. Just full turn to left or right and then slowly, gently release back to initial position (the car must be in motion)... You might be able to hear it again.. Smile

do a self test, there's some freeplay in between the Airbag module(the one with KIA logo on it) and the steering wheel central hub, use the tip of yr finger and push the Airbag module from the bottom upwards, hear for any squeaking plastic sound, if Yes, nothing to do with clock spring....if 100% no sound, chances is the clock spring....

Clock spring problem will give u very faint tick tick sound while if due to Airbag module, it will produce squeaking plastic sound (plastics rubbing against each other).....
