Fuel Gauge Displays Inaccurate Fuel Tank Level

Has anyone ever encountered any problem with refuelling or inaccurate fuel gauge meter?

When mine is filled halfway, the pump will jump prematurely. First I thought, the needle/pointer not accurate, but later found out it's the pump that is sensing full tank when it's only 3/4 full. I tried to refuel, the pump jumps again. I took the pump out, and reinserted, it's refuelling normally until the needle really indicating Full.
What could be wrong?

Its not your car's fuel gauge display that is inaccurate but the way you pump petrol. Did you press to the max flow when filling up?...

agree, i think u did not pump properly. did u insert the pump nozzle in fully?

hi bro, did u check the petrol indicator on ur dial innediately while pumping? It wont be accurate immediately, the capacitor need time to read the value...

I do what normal blokes do when they max refuel. It cannot be the way I pump or how deep the nozzle is inserted, bcos if it does, that shows that KIA design never consider tolerance.
Anyway, I've tried all sorts of combo, nozzle fully insert , nozzle partially insert, auto-trigger pin pulled to the max (old nozzle design) in Shell, Esso, Petronas, etc just couldn't get a consistent symptom.

I'm just wondering if this car has memory effect on the fuel consumption? Eg. I often pump 4lits, and one day I wanna pump 10lits, will that trigger the premature cut?

ermm don't think it will premature cut. how many times have u pump?

is it always like that?

hmm.. i ever encouter if the station pump is overpressured that it cuts off pump / eject as soon as you full press. this is the precaution / safety for the fuel nozzle.
i would suggest you try different station pump...

may i know bro here, wat is ur reading on the [distance to empty] when u pump full tank of petrol (needle max on top [F])??

Last night: 530
First time: 555
3 times: 420 plus

No similar symptoms encountered for the past 3 pumps liao... I guess it's ok liao.

Thats why i don't even bother abt "Full Distance to empty".. In fact i don't even really bother abt the FC so much.. When its low, so top up lo.. or top up as per u use...

On collection first week, mine shows 670km, now on full tank it shows 653km.

why the difference so great ???

Monitoring the FC guage since Day - ONE !

Top Fuel to max : Fuel Tank Indicator Needle over n above the 1st Mark.
Needle to 1st marking : Average 160km.
Thereafter every mark is 70km.

my most recent dist to empty reading show 695Km...

hopefully i can break e 700Km mark...

no mod.. stock condition(1.6SX A).. 80% highway travelling(maintaining 90-100Km/h) wif a feather light right foot...

Errr... those you mention not really related to ur 695KM full distance tank.. I believe individual ECU read differently.. Now i always get 470++ Km for my full tank.. I even one time pump until the fuel just "vomit out" then stop.. It still show me 470++... So first two to three times, i managed to get ard 520++ km, thereafter bo liao..

So that time i also wonder is it mine spoil, but then i just give up caring abt the FC liao..

Work already stress liao.. Now own car also need to stress abt Fc.. haha..

Impact bro, what's your fuel comsumption? Mine shows 470++ when full filled but the fuel comsumption is only 8.7km/l (way too low) still trying to figure why?? :

Mine always show 459 everytime I pump full tank...

Just pump FULL tank today.... it shows 540km..... The last time was 560, However when fuel is empty... it only could clock in 430km (a loss of 130km leh)...

Just sharing a discovery I've made.

Was replacing the emblem on the steering wheel on Sat and removed the -ve point of battery. Distance to empty was around 460km cos just pumped full tank the same day.

Did my replacement and when switched on engine, Distance to empty became 575km.

That's strange.... so the metering is inaccurate.

This is somewhat like a ECU reset. So the car will recalibrate itself again.

I would suggest to do a manual calculation using ur ODO and the amount of petrol u pump. Meaning until empty or until your reference point for a few tanks and at the same time compare it to ur fuel gauge display. Dun let one or 2 tanks of reading get the better of you. Try at least 3 and above to get a good comparison between ur calculation and the gauge.

I also do manual calculation.... the metering for AVER KM, DIST To EMPTY are merely estimated indicators.... they r kind of inaccurate.

Hi, there was once my indicator showed 50km to empty, after less than 1km, it showed --- km to empty. scary man... had to hurry to find one petrol kiosk.. bad indicator....

Think that is normal.... as in manual.. below 50 will no longer indicate.. cos its not accurate to 5L IIRC... so..
better la.. at least will find petrol station soonest....

today went C&C asking them abt this re-calibration of fuel sensor.. They look stunned when i ask them. Apparently its give me the impression that i am the first one to ask them lo..

So in the end, they also can't anything to my fuel sensor..

Happy with FC average 13km/L on manual calculation.

FC indicator ranges 7.2 - 7.6 L/100KM

when ever my fc indicator reach low low, after i pump full tank i need to re challenge myself for the low fc indicator -_-" so irritating.. why cant the satistic stays there
