Rain Repellent
I noticed that when it rains the side mirrors are kind of "unclear" because rain water tends to stick to the mirror.
Anybody tried any rain repllent product like rain-x ?
Any good or recommendation ?

Re: Rain Repellent
I have tried rain repllent on all of my windows including front windscreen and back. And wheneve it rains, water will just slip down without making it blur I guess any brand will give the same effect.

Re: Rain Repellent
Bro not recommended to put rain repellant at front windshield. Your wiper blade will harden faster and when the repellant worn, you get this wiper judder thing. Good for the rest of windows though..

Re: Rain Repellent
I only intends to apply the rain repellent on the side mirrors. Because when rains, the headlights of the car tends to "amplify" in the side mirrors (especially left side mirror) and that confuse my judgement when changing lane.

For the lack of a better description, since I can't remember the name of the japanese product, there's one that comes in an easy to apply bottle/applicator that looks like a big fat red dildo...
Apologies to all lady members reading this, but I really can't remember the damned product name!

i tot we are suppose to lift up the wipers when ever we park under openair to prevent the windscreen's heat from the sun hardening the wiper rubbers?

i tried Rain X in my previous ride.. starting its quite good.. but after some time.. it seems to casue the wipers to jerk/ jump... unless very little raindrops.. and w/o using wipers.. the product is good.. but need to constantly apply.. so now i give up.. just turn on wiper if too much rain on the windscreen anyway just my experience lah.. glad u like it..

I was told by the sales person who sold me silicon made wipers not to use any chemicals like RainX for windscreen. His advice is "Clean the windscreen with just dish wahing soap and water, the wiper will be very smooth and no sound/vibration"...... and it works

i heard tat too... and silicon wipers seems really good.. i almost wanted to change on my old car last time... but ended up i just spent less than $15 to replace new rubber wipers cos i felt tat:
1) the cost of good silicon wiper is too high to do the same job..
2) there are cases of silicon wipers been stolen from cars..

Re: Rain Repellent
me uses other brand.. it never state how long it will last.. but normal when you wash your car.. wont the shampoo also wash off the repellent???
keigo- Senior Member
Re: Rain Repellent
By right, should not be that easy to wash off the repellent.
But then, it doesn't last that long either.
6 months?? More like 1 - 2 months.

Re: Rain Repellent
i re-applied on my old car everytime i washed it.. ya, won't last 6 months for sure.. more like 1-2 weeks time den not effective liao.. later on i suspected it caused jerking to the wipers.. so stop using..

Only for your mirrors and rear windscreen, provided you don't have a wiper there.

ya, good idea.. i used to have a wiper for rear screen.. but forte dun have.. tends to have droplets there during raining days.. so apply on the rear screen is a good suggestion!

Re: Rain Repellent
My Impreza had lots of wiper juddering problems with or without rain-repellant. I changed 3 wipers to try to solve the wiper problem, but to no avail.
Finally changed to Bosch Aerotwin wipers. The problem was mostly solved. Juddering was minimal. Even when it judders, the noise of the juddering is low compared to the normal wipers, where the sound of the juddering is a major distraction.
Hence one of the very first things I'm gonna change on my new ride will definitely be the wipers.
As for rain-repellant, not really sure whether it was effective, coz it could be my way of application, which may be wrong. Didn't seem to be any help though.

Re: Rain Repellent
I think Bosch aerotwin wipers are lubricated with graphite oil.
they are quite expensive, about $60 a pair.
To prevent wiper juddering (although i never try b4) coat the wiper blade with a bit of silicon or graphite lubricant.
i find its better to live with wiper juddering than don't apply rainx.
the view is so much clearer

Must know where got better lobang. The cheapest I found was S$55 per pair...
Definitely better than the other Bosch ones that BMS sold me for S$40plus.
The juddering was even louder than my tyre noises!

joepele wrote:But the "Arm" holding the wipers seems flimsy...
Are they?
They aren't. Dun worry. Very good and reliable.
I remember a thread in MCF talking about silicon wipers and aerotwin wipers. That was the thread that led me to buying the aerotwins. Dun really remember much from the thread, but I seem to remember people saying the silicon ones still gave them juddering problems. Anyway, it's not like my wipers dun judder. Just that the frequency is less, and it is less noisy when juddering. I think it could be the Impreza's windscreen problem rather than wiper problem since all the wipers I used judders.

Re: Rain Repellent
Anyway, OTing already.
Back to topic.
I've used both Duragloss Rain Repel and RainX. Duragloss effects can only last for about 2-3 washes/rain. While RainX supposedly last for 2 weeks or so from what I've heard.
Never managed to gauge the effects myself coz they seem like not working for me.
User/Applicator's problem.

Re: Rain Repellent
By the way, how do you guys apply RainX?
What I did was just spray on the windows and them wipe them dry. Sometimes doing it twice.

That would cause the rainbow / oily effect.
Must apply using slightly moist cloth when there is sunlight.
Leave for a couple of mins.
The use dry cloth to clean off.

Bro, imho most wiper juddering occurs when you have wax on your windscreen. Eg.. using wash & wax car shampoo..

That's what others said to me too. Initially thought it was the CS-II that caused the juddering. Then Sherine assured me that they dun do anything to the windscreen.
So I thought the culprit was my shampoo. I had this Armourall Wash N Wax. So I stopped washing my car (this can be attributed to laziness too ). But then still had juddering.
After that was 3 wipers changed, with the Aerotwin being the last. Initially didn't judder. But eventually, it did. But coz it was not noisy, and still managed to wipe decently, so I ignored it.
Used soap and water to wash and wiped dry with newspaper. Still judder, so I gave up. Just gotta live with it for a month or so more.
However, the weird thing is that - it doesn't judder immediately. It will normally judder after some time of wiping.

Re: Rain Repellent
Bro, to remove wax you must must some cleaning agent. Not sure which one. Soap and water can't remove wax. But using newspaper to wipe dry is good....

Hope my new ride wun give me any such problems. If not, it will be such a disappointment.
MCF IS a good place to learn car care techniques and such. Learnt a lot from there. One of them is the use of newspaper to wipe the windscreen. The recommended diluting Mama Lemon to clean the windscreen. Supposedly remove a lot of dirt and grime, including wax. But I used just once, so didn't continue to monitor the effects. Laziness again.
