Post by mkkiaforte 17th November 2009, 9:27 pm

Just read from evening Chinese papers that a mitsubishi kena stolen in Jusco, JB. Car has only been used for 1yr only and 9 more yrs of installments to go.

For insurance they cover comprehensive, 3rd party fire and theft, 3rd party only and fire and theft only.
Basically the first one comprehensive covers all the rest plus own dmg.

According to the article, it was stolen within minutes. 2 buggers came in Kelisa/Kancil and quickly did the work and left in lighting speed together. From the photo, it looks like Lancer GLX.

Most insurance will cover up to certain distance into thailand actually. So if you are driving up north ensure ur cover has until malaysia at least.

Well, guess it depends on your coverage. Also premiums more I guess??

I know like most normal insurance policies for accidents dun cover overseas rite aural?? :-)

Think you need to buy a separate travel insurance or something like that. :-)

Most motor policies will exclude overseas but most will have an endorsement to include west malaysia and 60km into thailand also for some. Usually there is not separate policy.

Dun think so...

if I remember correctly... it covers till Msia end only... When you drive into TH, you'll need to buy another insurance that would cover TH too...

Well... that was applicable for bikes la... back then... when I rode to Hatyai.... 10 yrs ago...

Car Stolen! Empty Re: Car Stolen!

Btw about what really happens, when the insurer determines it is a theft and so on. They will give mkt value.

Same as accidents during a total loss and there is not one to one replacement. The insurer give you the mkt value at point of loss.

So if your loan is 60k outstanding and the mkt value is only worth 40k then u have to find the 20k to top up.

By right if we do not take loan then the payment is usually just nice to pay for our car mkt value or slightly lower. But then again how possible is this for average SG ppl like us.

Sad to say most of the time is body + coe remainging. Saw one case of total loss after 3 yrs the guy have to top up 10k+ to pay off loan to after the insurer paid the total loss.

I do many type from life, investment, motor, business, travel and so on.

Not all aspects will make good money that is for sure. The motor biz is one aspect that is really hard for the insurer to get good money. Many claims escalate due to rogue workshops, legal fees and such. End of the day, the money paid out few k did not go to the insurer but to the above mentioned parties.

understand.... but u see from the consumer perspective... when u need help most... then a lot of barriers are put up...we end up feeling that u against the one who bang u and then when u turn to ur insurance, they also wanna protect themselves and put themselves as another adversary instead of the partner.

u only become partner when they want u to pay or renew the contract.

Reality sucks. So that's why for a simple motor insurance i usually get my assistant to do up so many quotes just for one car. Car Stolen! Icon_razz
