$1200 at the minimum... Then add all the other stuff you did, you should have gotten the SX instead.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
You can refer to this post. The list of parts I already stated inside. But need to wait for someone to try out. If successful then can MO for all EX owners

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
Wow the listed parts are more than 2000USD. Actually I've heard from a friend that doing sth like this normally costs ard the 2-3k range. But never enquired at stores so I won't know if its true.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
Unless you are willing to wait few years down the road. Can get half cut parts from Malaysia since they also have Forte.
Est parts + labour @ RM400 ~ RM500 based on my old car.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
Uber is near leng kee there, monster is at ubi (www.streetdirectory.com.sg). But seriously, I do not think the disc brake conversion is necessary at all.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
Drive safely, all brakes will do fine, ceteris paribus.
Drive like a maniac, no different from those players in the casino throwing dice....a game of chance....disc brakes or drum brakes is not part of the consideration anyway. When the game is up, it is finish.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
Unless you are significantly increasing your engine power, there is no point to upgrade the brake.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
i think so.. not worth a thing when you already decided for EX.. with the saving.
lets consider when later you think youll need ESC, TCS, BAS.. etc etc..
very well go SX in the 1st place.. ??

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
Y bother waste money to convert? Despite all they hype about disc brakes, eventually it's the person behind the wheel that is responsible for anything the car does. FYI, there's still tons of cars on the road with drum brakes and that includes vios, fit, jazz and many many others.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
braking only front brakes used, rear brakes only for parking or manual cars upslope. Unless u intend to slide ur car

Bro, all 4 brakes are used during braking. Only the force distributed is different. Front brake est ~ 60 - 70%, while the rest goes to the rear brake.

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
think so that got to do with weight distribution of the car design.. ours is usually like 65%F / 35%R. so if there no change in force distribution. rear tends to lock up more then front causing skid..
and that is why we need to rotate our tyre too...
for certain better balanced 50%/50% car they dun do tyre rotation and their car dun dive much during braking.. (ref.. Saab, Honda Legend..etc..)

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
aiyo. almost every online car websites say the effectiveness of drum brakes and disc brakes in modern cars are almost the same. Only significant difference when you're talking about high performance cars, like lambo or Porsche.
Have 2 rear disc brakes in our humble forte won't make any noticeable difference. IF really concerned about life, then like that, i also want to convert my forte to the 2 litre version where i have (like what) 6 airbags?
side-tracked a little.. my last ride was a kangoo, and it had 2 front disc, and 2 rear drums. what i love about the drums is that the pads can last for a very very long time. i changed 3 times the pads for the fronts.

Got moola = can!

Re: Conversion of drum brake to disc brake
You can, but probably not now. You gotta wait for another Forte to scrap and buy over the parts. On top of the brakes, you need the rear wheel bearings and knuckles. Might also need the handbrake conversion too, but I'm not too sure about it as I've not seen the Forte's rear brakes upclose.

Just to add on to what Tiny said.
With enough moola still can, customised build parts. Not sure about local SG customized specialties but if you willing to fork out the money, USA and most of Europe with rich automotive heritage is a sure and safe bet for customization. The local LTA portion is another story liao.
