Auto Gear safe to drive?
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1026902/1/.html
There is recent TV news reported an accident occurred in Tiong Bahru Plaza.
During the interview the taxi driver said that he suppose to stop when approching the taxi stand but somehow he floor the accelerator so hard and it ploughed into a 7 elevent store located at Tiong Bahru Plaza on Friday and cause injury to 3 people.
Now a day taxi also runing on auto gear. When a person is panic 50% chance he will go for brake and another 50% chance go for accelerator. So driving in auto gear izit safe?

Re: Auto Gear safe to drive?
That's a lame excuse....
The accelerator and brake are in two different position. Even a new driver can't mix it up....
A vehicle is a dangerous weapon in the hand of someone who has a preposition to seize up......
Driving a vehicle comes with a responsibility of ensuring that you did not cause injury or death to another person. If you can't handle the responsbility, it is wise not to drive. It has nothing to do with either it being a manual or auto car. The car if well maintained is safe, the problem is the driver.

Re: Auto Gear safe to drive?
During the interview with the taxi driver, he was not drunk or sleepy. Maybe he was inexperience or too panic during that moment mix up the position of brake and accelerator so step the wrong pedal.

Re: Auto Gear safe to drive?
That's so lame, if he floored the accelerator so hard...it also implies he is braking very hard and why would one need to brake very hard...hmmmm

Re: Auto Gear safe to drive?
It is possible that he had his hand brakes or parking brakes on. He might have intended step on the foot brake before releasing the hand brake.
So, with foot wrongly on the accelerator pedal, on releasing the hand brake, the taxi blast off.

if his feet is on the accelerator pedal with his hand brake on, he'll smell burning rubber, hear screeching sound, and a lot of engine noise. I suppose he have to be deaf and no sense of smell in order to pull that that off.

Re: Auto Gear safe to drive?
Actually you can accomplish that in less than 1 secs.
Jam on the accelerator, release the hand brake. before you know it, you are in 7-eleven liao.
