Sadly no. Techinically he can remain in Romania as long as he is still a citizen there.

Doubt he will get convicted at all. Firstly, he has immunity here in spore and is not subject to spore laws. But he is subjected to Romanian laws. But then, he did not commit the crime in Romania!! So, I guess its more or less confirmed he wont be convicted. Probably lose his post and not be allowed to work in govt again, but thats about it I think.

read froM Straits Times earlier about the IMMNUNity thingy, apparently there was a US ambassador stationed in Romania who got into trouble after hitting some ppl while driving awhile ago. So same thing, US recalled the person back, Romania kbkb alot back then also no use, now their turn to be in the ' hot seat' . The loser is always the poor victims and their loved ones.

It was rather obvious from the eyes from the public the Romanian douchebag is the culprit. He left the country right after the incident claiming to be SICK. And even finally saying he may not be coming back. Our govt keep telling people to let the Police to their work and don't point fingers. All in all, he has immunity. He may not and less than likely be charged. But what is clear now is that, if he escapes, the surviving victims already taking about claiming compensation. And how about the dead?

We just wait and see, Im guessing things will get messier in legal proceedings next month with the victims claiming compensation. That, the govt cannot sway away from.

Wahhh!! International court/legal cases damn messy and costs damn a lot of money!!!

Dun think it will be a criminal case but more of a civil one. But then again, our local civil acts do not govern him because of that overriding immunity clause.....hmmmm.....interesting!! Shall go ask some of my lawyer friends!! :-)

Yes it will go civil court. That is where the foreign law will be put into effect.

But I thought even with civil court, and foreign law, the immunity clause covers that?? No??

Actually I think the most important thing now is, whether his own Romanian govt wanna protect him or not. If they want to, I think theres not much that can be done.

No i mean due to the fact that the Romanian douchebag has immunity, it is still the person/victim right to claim compensation. It is stated that the victim has an amounting hospital bill of 50K SGD. If the govt decides to use the statement that the Romanian embassy has immunity and will not be liable to any claims, how do u think the public will react. It will eventually mean that any diplomatic person in SG can just LANGGAR any of us knowing that they are not liable.

I dunno. Hahaha!! I dunno what does the immunity clause say. Thats why wanna go find out. But anyways, a life is lost. How much do you compensate for that?? Think Judge also will have a difficult time!! x

I know of someone who happens to work overseas' SG Emb.
From what my friend mentioned, it now depends on whether Rom government want to send him back or not. If not, what SG government can do most is to write them a letter to request to prosecute him using Rom law.
