Kumho Solus KH17. Surprisingly not too shoddy as it seems to hug corners quite ok. Wet dunno yet as I've yet to take my Koup out in the rain.

Initially when I saw the thread pattern, thot "OMG...wat a CMI-looking tyre!". Another Kia surprise. haha....
Let's see how it holds up. Maybe our Forte bros who hv been on the KH17s longer can give better feedback.

Agree. I'm using F1 Asymmetric on my other car. Great tyre. Was thinking of swapping the KH17s for these but since it seems to grip ok for the modest power, maybe try out longer and see how.

welll....if u're not street racing, almost every stock tyre is more than sufficient. Stock tyres are long lasting, but compromise on grip.
i drive hard, and my personal choice is Toyo.

i guessed it was Aspec DB. quite a few ppl commented it's CMI. even supposedly low noise oso i find it CMI. the Asymmetric UHP is prob quieter and has tons more grip.

only thing good abt Aspec db will be quiet that's all .....

Re: Stock Tire
quiet tyres are quiet cos the the groove pattern..and those type of groove pattern will not be grippy.

there were some threads b4 discussing tyres....
performance the other end comfort
generally :
performance - noisy , good grip
comfort -silent, lousy grip

Re: Stock Tire
not really that case. some low-rolling resistance can perform exactly on the same level as a standard tyre. of course, if the test uses a lousy standard tyre like the NCT 5, then it may be biased. but on local roads, with a speed of 90km/h and below, any tyre is good enough to take on most wet surfaces.
for a reference, watch this video, a comparison between a series of VLRR tyres:

my statement is generalisation ..... of course technology will get better, and there will always be exception to the generalisation.....
i think the goodyear eagle lsd 2 series (i think) is said to have good grip and low noise....that i wan to buy.... after i botak this stock... maybe after 15k..

My first car had the aspec db tires. I crashed it in wet weather even though I applied the brakes very early. I was surprised my car skidded so far. Maybe also due to the fact that the car had no ABS.

its the tires not the car .....

Re: Stock Tire
Hmmm, not sure if its the same tires as forte.
So far i think the tires are pretty grippy even in wet conditions. Can corner 50 - 70km/h in heavy rain or 80 - 100km/h on straight road, no feeling of skidding so far.
But the downside is it's rather noisy.

unlimitedz wrote:redkoup, epig - u guys got reduce pressure to 220???
why do u have to reduce tyre pressure? I thought higher pressure = better grip? especially for aqua-planing...

Re: Stock Tire
higher pressure: better FC, slightly more responsive pick up
lower pressure: better grip
but effects are negligible.

Yeah! I use it on my previous ride. Not noisy. Cornering is more stable and less efforts on steering wheel. Will definitely change to Adrenaline when my stock botak.

Actually tire width do plays a part. What's your previous ride's tire width?

that's rite. hv heard quite a few poor FR on the RE001's wet performance. in tyre tests, the previous F1 GSD3 used to outgun the competition. now the Asymmetrics are doing the same.

Not sure abt the noise part but the DOT traction rating on the RE001s are A but the F1s are AA.
The traction rating is the test indicator adopted by all tyre manufacturers of how well the tyre is capable of stopping on wet pavement. "AA" is the highest rating; "C" is the lowest.

Re: Stock Tire
imo.. i feel the re001 is better in dry den the f1.. i tried both tyre b4.. sound wise aso better. but re001 seems harder.. more steel bracing? hehehe
actually i like the POTENZA on the side wall.. but both tyre are not bad la.. normal driving.. safe!!!

or POTENZA RE11...........wooohoooo even better.. overkill liao.. hahaha

Re: Stock Tire
F1 is built more for wet performance. However it sacrifice noise & comfort. Adrenaline is for both performance & noise & comfort. Hence expected performance may not be better than F1, however, it's less noisy & comfort for day to day travel. Just drive normally & it's safe enough.
