April 2009 Motoring Magazine
It doesn't really say on the cover. But there's a comparative review of the 1.6 SX(A) Forte with the Suzuki SX-4 and the Toyota Vios Sport.
Final verdict - Forte wins by a hair for value for money, design, build quality, feature set and for being the newest kid on the block. Cons - Brand name and the apparently not-so-good steering feel.
Maybe someone can scan or pdf that article and make it a sticky here? Any IP issues?

Never trust the local car magazine review. Just take it as a pinch of salt.

How about overseas car magazine reviews then?
But honestly, the final verdict is indeed why I bought the forte in the first place. Value for money, design, build quality, feature set and being the newest kid on the block. Brand name dont' really matter to me though, I was considering the Chery QQ, T10 at one point also. Steering is just lighter, otherwise nothing but a few drive and get accustom to the light feeling.

Of course you can trust the reviews! The fiercely independent and unbiased correspondents based their findings on whichever buys the most advertorial space in their magazines! Very scientific and lots of technical and engineering design know-how required!
Yeah, a huge pinch of salt definitely.
But you cannot deny that it's an interesting read and written well enough to convince.

Re: April 2009 Motoring Magazine
waypoint, u already know the trick behind. As I am in the design industry, I didn't really want to mention this so obviously as I have a few clients in the motor industry.
Fortec, as for the oversea magazine, u will find that many of them are very racist towards certain brands, especially the Asian brands. Moreover, the specs of the cars overseas are different from those imported into Singapore. Very difficult to compare in details.

Re: April 2009 Motoring Magazine
Every magazine will have it's own set of bias, be it loyalty to country or brand. And most (if not all) will be obliged to write a rather positive review of the car if the company is doing a huge advertising in the same magazine.
I used to read alot of Motoring magazine back in the early 90s. Back then it was only Motoring and Torque (and another one by AAS). Torque was very similiar to motoring, not like what you see these days with photoshopped girls on the front cover.
The trick to reading Motoring is to read between the lines. If the car they reviewed failed to mention much about the engine but keep praising the interior, you can be sure the engine is lousy. They say good things, bad things don't say. But one thing I really like about Motoring is that they put very specific details of the car, like the type of suspension, brakes, even engine bore/ stroke and compression ratio. Helps in deciphering the characteristics of the engine.

I m just asking, truth is, I never read any car mag except when I am waiting for the doctor at the clinic. If memories are correct, I remember I only bought 2 magazines in my life....one playboy and the other hustler ^_^....that was many many years ago.
Like u said, reviews can only be taken with a pinch of salt. Best is still experience it oneself ya if opportunity allows.

Re: April 2009 Motoring Magazine
I only read car magazines when they have cars which we seldom get to see, at least can have a glimpse of the interior.
As for other cars, i rather head down to showroom and review it myself

Yeah true bro..who cares about the reviews! Most important is whether u like it or not..reading all these magazines just to see the pix of good looking and rare cars that are super expensive and will not be imported to Singapore!

Re: April 2009 Motoring Magazine
me use to do that too....but now they clever.....wrap all the mag with plastic....
muff- Senior Member
Re: April 2009 Motoring Magazine
Wrap with plastic - that makes matter worse.... people don't know what is inside.... so won't buy! I know that in some shops, magazine business is poor.... so they unwrap it again... lol
